We are doing a lot with AI, but I am not sure what is really working.

We are doing a lot with AI, but I am not sure what is really working.

What has actually changed?

You may be seeing more adoption, faster tasks, lower cost, better process performance, or improved customer or employee experience.

A useful test is:

If the AI activity stopped tomorrow, what business result would get worse?

If that is hard to answer, the issue may not be the AI. The organization may simply not have made the connection between activity and outcome explicit.

Then ask:

What evidence are you using to decide that the AI is working?

Adoption, efficiency, performance, outcome, and enterprise value are related, but they are not the same thing.

What this may mean

A successful use case does not automatically create enterprise value.

The real question is:

What is working, for whom, and how does that improvement contribute to the outcome the organization actually cares about?

If that connection is unclear, follow the improvement forward.

Understand It

AIMT looks at value as a connected path:

Capability → Efficiency → Performance → Outcome → Enterprise Performance → Value Realization

Progress at one stage is evidence. It is not proof of the next.

Work On It

Choose one AI-enabled activity the organization considers successful and trace it forward:

  • What changed?

  • What improved?

  • What business outcome was expected?

  • Did that outcome actually improve?

  • Did it contribute to an enterprise result that matters

If the chain breaks, that is useful information.
